Good morning! My youngest brother is currently leading a team from his church on a missions trip over in the country of Kenya. He has been sending us photos of a natural safari with beautiful wild animals and amazing views of God’s creation! I have always enjoyed exploring nature whether its hiking through the woods, kayaking in a body of water, walking along the shore, or anything else that allows you to see the majestic views of a location that has not been touched by human hands.

There is something about being in these locations that really allows you to appreciate the incredible design and intricate artistry of our world. I know that this is not a reality, but I wish I had an opportunity to see everything that God has created. I’m talking about from the highest of mountains to the depths of the seas, from north to south, east to west, and everywhere in between. The earth is SO big, but that is really just the beginning – the planets, the sun, the moon, the stars, and the billions of galaxies!

Our God really is INDESCRIBABLE! I remember the first time I put a kayak in the lake at French Creek State Park in Pennsylvania. It was a little overwhelming how small I actually felt in a calm and peaceful lake. In that moment, I remember looking up to towards the sky and telling God how amazing His creation is!

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Genesis 1:1

All of what you see in this world today began to exist at creation. I can’t imagine being there at creation as God spoke the earth into existence. “Let there be light,” and there was light – that’s crazy! Listen to these verses from the book of John.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”

John 1:1-3

Notice the capital “W” in Word. Anytime there is a word that starts with a capital letter when it normally otherwise would not – it’s there for a reason. Check out how the term, “Word” was understood to the Jewish and Greek people of that time.

  • Jewish Understanding – the Word of God is associated with creation, revelation, and salvation.
  • Greek Understanding – Logos (the Greek word) refers to reason or the principle of order in the universe

By using this term, John is bringing together the Jewish and Greek understandings to emphasize how the Word is a divine instrument of creation and revelation. The Word is not just a spoken word but also a person who is active in our world today!

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:12

This is talking about the One through who all things were created – Jesus! He was there in the beginning and He is evident in all of creation.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”

Psalm 19:1-4a

God’s creation is telling us about Jesus if we are paying attention. I love watching shows based in Alaska – the last frontier. The untouched landscape and beauty of how all things in nature work together – there is no way I would ever believe that it all just happened by chance!

But when God created the world, there is one thing that He created that was His prized possession – humans (me and you!). Think about it, we are part of this creation that was created through Jesus and were created to proclaim the glory of God to the people around us! Let’s do our part to tell of the wonder of our Creator!

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating us in Your image! Sometimes I fail to connect the dots that we are part of Your great creation. I know that You created this beautiful world, but I occasionally forget that I am a part of it! Help us to remember that You created us with the purpose to bring You glory! Help us to live in a way that points others to You! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
