Good morning! The wind has been so crazy the last few days! The crazy thing about the wind is that you can’t see it, but you can see the effects of it on other things. The rustling of the trees, waving of flags, the blowing of the beard LOL! The wind is so strong that whenever I hear the wind it always puts me on alert to make sure I have everything secured on the deck or in the backyard so it doesn’t blow around.

When I first put a trampoline in the backyard, I bought spiral anchors that I could sink into the ground to secure it so it didn’t get flipped over. We ended up having a storm and while my trampoline was fine, the neighbor’s got flipped over and broke.

The wind is very powerful – just think about how it topples trees during storms, powers sailboats on the water, or produces energy by turning massive windmills or turbines.

I have been up on a ladder during some crazy wind storms and if I wasn’t harnessed in, the power of the wind would be enough to knock me off balance and off the ladder because of how it makes the strand move back and forth.

Even now, I’m watching the flag as it is being blown in different directions. The flag always goes in the direction the wind is taking it – it can never fly in a way that is against the current of the air.

This reminds me of the Holy Spirit and the effect He can have in our lives if we yield ourselves to His leading. Unlike the flag that has no choice but to be blown in the wind’s direction, we have to choose to surrender to the Holy Spirit’s influence.

For example, in moments when someone is driving us crazy (and I know we have all been there) and the Holy Spirit is leading us to be patient or compassionate, do we act out in frustration or allow the influence of the Holy Spirit to win the battle of our behavior?

The Holy Spirit enlightens our minds to the truth in God’s Word. He will continually teach us and encourage us to live like Jesus! The question we need to continually ask ourselves is, ‘Are we living to please ourselves, or are we living to please God?’

When trees are flexible and move with the wind, they are less likely to be uprooted and in turn cause damage to the things around it. They actually begin to experience cell differentiation which causes strength. If you are interested (and you should be LOL), look up the word thigmomorphogenesis – it’s my new word to explain one of the many benefits of yielding to the Holy Spirit!

This is so cool – when we are flexible to what the Holy Spirit wants to do in our lives, we will be more secure and less likely to be uprooted. Our lives will BE TRANSFORMED causing us to be stronger and to stand firm in whatever elements we find ourselves in.

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

Galatians 5:25

Let’s let our lives be a representation of the Holy Spirit as He leads us to be like Christ. Not trying to go in a different direction that would cause trouble, but flowing in the beauty of surrender.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Help us to yield in surrender even when everything inside of us wants to go the other way. Help us to be obedient to develop deep roots in Jesus to withstand anything that comes our way. In Jesus Name – AMEN!
