Good morning! This morning I am reminded of how much God loves us and how His love for us enables us to love others! I think about the relationship I have with Mer and how important it is for us to continue fanning the flame of our love for each other by investing in our marriage. Taking time each day to care for one another, share and listen to one another, show how important we are to each other, and sometimes just to sit and be with each other.
The same is true in our relationship with God!
“The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.”
Leviticus 6:12-13
What an encouraging and challenging portion of scripture!
Encouragement – The continuous fire on the altar symbolized God’s continuous presence, His unending covenant with Israel, and His readiness to accept their offerings.
Challenging – The fire must not go out commands a constant state of worship and readiness to serve God! Our devotion to God must be unwavering and compel us to live set apart for Him! Just like how the priests were to add fuel to the fire every morning, it will take commitment and work to keep our relationship with God burning hot and strong.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
Romans 12:1
This verse calls us to be living sacrifices recognizing all that God has done for us! As we surrender our hearts and lay them on the altar, He will accept our worship and we will be set apart to live for Him!
I absolutely love enjoying a fire in my fire pit with family and friends! When I build the fire, I stack the wood in a specific way so it can breathe and is not smothered. You can’t just throw the wood in a pile, light it and have a huge bonfire – you need to care for it and tend it to be able to enjoy the heat and beauty of it! The same is true to keep our fire burning for Jesus!
Heavenly Father, You are amazing! Thank You for Your constant Presence and Your readiness to accept the offerings we bring to You! Help us to care for the relationship we have with You to keep it burning hot and strong! May we always be committed to keep our fire burning for You! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
