Good morning! This morning I want to challenge you with something I say to Josh over and over again! Many of you know that Josh started playing the saxophone last year at school and he has really grown to love it! Mer and I love watching and listening to him practice each day. When he practices, he likes to play the parts that he is good at, the parts that come easy to him; but quickly plays through the difficult things to get it over with.
I continuously find myself saying to him – Practice to get better, don’t just practice to get it over with! There is a big difference between practicing to get better and just trying to get it done. When you practice to get better, you play through the entire piece of music but then you go back to work on the parts that don’t come easily to you.
This same principle can be applied to our relationship with God. I ask you to think about this today? Are you spending time reading God’s Word to grow, or are you just reading God’s Word because you are suppose to and want to get it out of the way. Maybe it’s not even that you want to get it out of the way as much as it is that you have too many other things going on and need to get on with your day.
Whatever it is, I challenge you today to spend QUALITY TIME with your Saviour! Spend time with the intention of growing to be more like Jesus! Set aside time and go to a place to where you can sit at the feet of Jesus. Read His Word, share your heart with Him, worship Him, and listen for what He wants to speak to you! Then take what he says and put it into practice.
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.”
James 1:22-25
When we spend time with God today, let’s be intentional about growing! Let’s all come away from our bible reading with one thing that we can immediately apply to our lives. Have a GREAT day!
Heavenly Father, help us today to not only love Your Word, but to take it and apply it to our lives! You have given us the answers to everything we can and will face today. Holy Spirit, we ask You to bring the Word to life inside of us to be a witness to all around us! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
