Good morning! It’s finally the weekend! I hope you all get to enjoy some part of this weekend! It is so important for us to find rest! Our bodies need it, our minds need it, and our soul needs it! Without proper rest, nothing functions correctly.
Look at God’s example:
“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.”
Genesis 2:2
Now we all know that Almighty God – the One who has no limitations – did not need to rest, but was setting an example for us.
“It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.”
Exodus 31:17
The first word in this verse – It – was referring to the Sabbath day of rest that the Israelites were commanded by God to observe. The Sabbath serves as a perpetual reminder of God’s creation and His special relationship with Israel, setting them apart from other nations.
God offers us rest in Him!
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul.”
Psalm 23:2-3
What a great picture of calmness – and who doesn’t need this kind of rest after a crazy week filled with screaming kids, the pressure of deadlines, hard labor, overwhelming responsibilities, or any of the thousands of other things that try to rob our rest.
Additionally, the Sabbath foreshadows the ultimate rest available in Jesus through faith in His finished work! Rest from knowing that our eternity is secure for those who accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior!
So whatever you find yourself doing this weekend, make sure you slow down and find time to rest. Find rest in the arms of Jesus – there is no better place to be!
Heavenly Father, thank You for the rest available in You! Help us to take advantage of it so that we can be refreshed and refueled to continue serving You with excellence! Help us to allow our body, mind, and soul to find rest in You alone! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
