Good morning! In the beginning of the year as I was coming home from being out, Josh had his devotional journal in hand and was so excited to tell me what had happened during his devotional time with God. He opened his journal and read me the entry…
“I was worshipping Jesus and I heard Him speaking to my spirit, I started weeping.”
My first reaction was, that’s awesome! And after encouraging him, I asked him what he thought God was saying because I wanted him to write it down so he could go back and remember this time!
He said, “It sounded like He said, keep worshipping.”
Josh was worshipping and God was loving it! As his earthly father, I am so excited that he is beginning to know His Heavenly Father! I immediately thought about the Lord calling Samuel.
1 Samuel 3 tells us about Samuel when God was calling him. God called out to him 3 times, and each time he went running to Eli the priest and said, “Here I am; you called me.” By the third time, Eli realized it was God calling out to Samuel. He told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if He calls you, say, Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”
The Lord called again and gave a message to Samuel. And in 1 Samuel 3:21 it says, “The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there He revealed Himself to Samuel through His Word.”
God wants to speak to each one of us! As we spend time in God’s Word, He will continue to reveal Himself to us, and we will begin to learn to recognize His voice. Samuel did not know that it was God calling him at first, and we may not either, but if our hearts and ears are open to Him, He will speak to us – He has given us His Word!
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that enables us to grow in our knowledge of who You are and how much You love us! Your Word is our guide, Your Word is truth, Your Word is eternal! Help us as we spend time reading and studying Your Word to allow You to speak to us. Help us train our hearts and ears to hear Your voice above all the noise around us! Thank you for encouraging Joshua as he was worshipping You! I pray that each person reading this is encouraged and challenged to listen for Your voice today! Speak Lord, your servants are listening! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
