Good morning! Yesterday as I left for work, the grass looked great. We have done our best to water it, fertilize it, and maintain it so that our yard looks nice and we take care of the property that God has blessed us with. But when I got home, I noticed that something had changed.

Our neighbor next to us had her landscaper come for the weekly cut and suddenly, I noticed how long the grass was and it was now in need of a cut – BOO! This morning, the grass was the same height as the neighbors and nothing looked out of the ordinary. But when the neighbors was cut, it was extremely noticeable that ours needed to be as well.

This got me thinking about our lives: our behaviors, our beliefs, our relationships, our thoughts, our words – everything about us! If we are examining our lives against the people around us, we may think that we are doing pretty good.

Just like when I thought our lawn was looking great and required no maintenance, we may think that our lives are fine and we don’t need to do anything different. We may miss out on what the Holy Spirit wants to do in and through us!

But when we examine our lives against the Word of God, we will learn to LIVE in a different way, a way that won’t make sense to others. The need for the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives will be so evident, just like when I came home and saw the well maintained lawn of my neighbor.

“Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become ‘fools’ so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight.”

1 Corinthians 3:18-19

I have learned to be OK with who God created me to be. I’m OK with not fitting in with the people around me. I’m OK with not participating in the things that others do. Let’s do our best to be honest with ourselves and allow God to shine His light on things that need to be more in line with His Word!

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your Word as a guide for our lives! It is amazing how You accept us as we are and encourage us to live as You created us to live – like You! Help us to use Your Word as a standard and not feel the need to keep up with the people around us! Thank You for making us unique – help us to live that way! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
