Good morning! I am so excited this morning to have another opportunity to preach a message from the Word of God! Whenever I am scheduled to preach, my intention is to be ready well before Sunday morning – but it never works out that way.
Whether something unexpected comes up, an important event is taking place, or I just procrastinate thinking that I have more time than I actually do – it always seems like I’m finishing up on the Saturday before the Sunday I have to preach.
Don’t misunderstand me, God is speaking to me about the message He wants me to deliver through my devotional time with Him and the Holy Spirit brings things to the forefront of my mind during my daily activities. But I don’t actually get it all down on paper in a way that flows and makes sense until I have no choice.
This is something that I know I need to work on because I want the messages that I deliver to be clear and relatable. The more time I have to review them, the more they become a part of me and it allows more time for God to speak to me through different things I experience.
Why do we procrastinate? It’s not like we are going to be relieved of the responsibilities we have; we will eventually have to do whatever we have committed to do.
The crazy thing is that when it comes to most everything else, I take care of things promptly without delay because I don’t want to forget to do them.
I’ve always told myself that I want to be in the moment when I’m preaching – almost like I want it to be the freshest for Sunday morning. I want the Holy Spirit to lead me in every opportunity I’m given to preach God’s Word!
The argument on the other side which is very valid is that the Holy Spirit would have more time to speak to me about the message if I had most of it prepared sooner.
I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.
Psalm 119:60
We should seek to be people who take action immediately when it comes to serving the Lord and living for Him! Why wait when it will eventually have to be done!
Let’s do our best to accomplish the things God calls us to without putting them off. It will allow Him more time to speak to us and give us more time to offer our best!
Heavenly Father, thank You for always showing up! Whether we do what we are supposed to right away, or we wait til the last minute, You always provide the support, wisdom, knowledge, and strength we need to complete the task You have called us to. Help us to honor You in the way we use our time! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
