Good morning! Sometimes in life I feel like I am running on a hamster wheel. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about – spending so much energy but feeling like you are not getting anywhere. This can be in responsibilities, finances, and relationships; at home, work, church, and in your community.

In my responsibilities, sometimes it feels like I make no progress on the projects I have on my plate. I work so hard to get something accomplished only to find myself feeling like I’m not making any progress. There are so many things vying for my attention that it can be overwhelming.

Financially, there was a time when we were in some pretty deep credit card debt. We were making monthly payments upwards of $500 and it wasn’t making a dent in the money that we owed because of the interest.

Relationally, I try my best to make the people around me know that they are valued, but still feel like I’m not doing enough. It always seems that I’m letting someone down because I can’t meet with them, I forget to call them back, or do something they asked me to do.

At home, the work never ends: if the lawn doesn’t need to be cut, the pool needs to be cared for, and if the house doesn’t have to be cleaned, there is always some type of maintenance that needs to be done.

If Josh doesn’t have baseball, he wants to be playing wiffle ball, basketball, ping pong, etc. You get the point – there is always something that needs to be done, someone to show love to, or somewhere we need to be.

It is so important for us to step off the hamster wheel and recenter ourselves to ensure we are not wasting time, energy, or money on things that essentially do not matter.

The person we need to run to is God and the place we need to go to as the source is His Word. He is LOVE! He is PEACE! He is JOY! He will bring order to the chaos in our lives.

Take time today to pause – assess our responsibilities, relationships, and finances. What are we wasting time on? What are we wasting money on? Who should we be investing in? These are questions that need to be answered so we can prioritize properly and live more efficiently for Jesus!

What responsibilities do we have that are not making any difference for eternity? Release them.

What are we spending money on that is not making a difference for eternity? Discipline ourselves in what we spend.

What friendships do we have that are not encouraging us to grow spiritually? Walk away from them.

Let’s let God speak to us through His Word to show us what is important to Him; then, make those things important to us! It’s only when we do this that we will begin to make progress in life and know we are accomplishing things that matter for eternity!

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Joshua 1:8

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder this morning to get off of the hamster wheel! You have such good plans for us! Help us to put stock in the things that matter for eternity and make the difficult choices to give things up so that we can spend more time making a difference for You! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
