Good morning! I’m pretty sure that everyone likes to feel like their life brings value to others! I am definitely one of those people! I don’t necessarily have to be important to everyone, but I do like to be a part of making other peoples live’s better!
There has been many times in the last 10 years where I have found myself working alone throughout the day. I would be in my work truck or up in the air in the bucket troubleshooting and repairing cable issues and thinking to myself – God what am I doing?
I remember always feeling like I wasn’t able to do all that God was calling me to. I felt like I was strapped down by my job with not enough time to make an impact in this world for Him!
Through each moment, I continued to surrender my life to God so He could use me for His glory! I prayed for Him to give me opportunities to share His love with others – I didn’t care what it looked like, I would stop at the 711 to hold the door for someone on their way in (and of course grab some coffee LOL), meet up with a coworker at the end of the day to put a smile on their face, or say hi to people as they walked by the truck as I was outside working. I just wanted to feel like I was being used by God!
If all He ever did for me was send His Son, Jesus, to live a perfect, sinless life only to be the ultimate sacrifice for me (and all humanity) – it would have been enough!
“But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
But He didn’t stop there, Jesus defeated the power of sin and death and has offered us eternal life with Him!
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
But wait, there’s MORE – He has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit to teach us about Jesus, bring God’s Word to life, and regenerate new life in us!
“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”
Romans 8:11
And God has done so much more in my life! The best part is that He has worked through every mistake I have ever made (which is alot) and used me wherever I was!
When Jesus called His first disciples, He was walking beside the Sea of Galilee when He saw Peter and Andrew casting a net into the lake.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed Him.
Mark 1:17-18
The disciples were fishermen, but Jesus took what they were doing – their gift, talent, skill that He had given to them – and repurposed the motive. He was calling them to abandon their former way of life and accept a new mission. He was calling them to bear witness to people and gather them into the Kingdom of God.
He didn’t only change what they were doing, but why they were doing it. They were no longer catching fish as a temporary occupation, but now they were fishing for people with an eternal reward!
This is exactly what God has done for me in my life. He has continued to show me over and over, how I have been a godly influence on the people around me. God has used me to bring comfort, clarity, and calmness to my coworkers; encouragement, support, and love to my friends and family; and provision, leadership, and discipline to my son.
He wants to do the same for you! It doesn’t matter what you do for a job – an accountant, utility worker, business leader, store clerk, police officer, teacher, or anything else – God can and will use the gifts that He has given to you to make an eternal impact for Him!
Don’t ever think for a moment that He can’t use you where you are. You don’t have to be a pastor, evangelist, or missionary to be used by Him! Allow Him to change your perspective so that you are not looking at the temporary, but focusing on the eternal impact He will make through you – to draw the people around you to Him!
Heavenly Father, thank You for how You take what we offer to You and make it so much better! Thank You for the gifts that You have given to each one of us. Help us to use our gifts to honor You, making an eternal impact on the people around us! Give us eyes to see how we have had the privilege of being used by You to help others know You more! Help us to be fishers of people so they can experience a relationship with You – In Jesus Name – AMEN!
