Good morning! The other night when I was driving home from the great State of New Jersey, we experienced some of the most intense lightning ever! Some of the lightning bolts were vertical and others were horizontal; some were short and others were long; and even when you couldn’t see the lightning bolts, we knew they were there because the whole sky would light up in a flicker.
I was so impressed by its beauty while at the same time respectful of its power. My favorite ones were where the lightning bolt would split into multiple branches filling up the whole view of the windshield!
At times, when the lightning would appear, the amount of light it let off was enough to make the night time sky look like day. As I thought about this for a moment, this is exactly what we are supposed to do as Christians. We are supposed to bring light into dark and stormy situations!
“You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.”
1 Thessalonians 5:5
“So that you may become blameless and pure, ‘children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.’ Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.”
Philippians 2:15
In the same way that all lightning bolts are different, we are all different, created uniquely by God for His purpose. When we are committed to live for Him, we will make an impact in the atmosphere we find ourselves in. It won’t look the same as the way someone else will make a difference, but nevertheless, you WILL make a difference!
I don’t think there is any way that someone driving that night could ignore the beauty and power of the lightning; and when we allow God to TRANSFORM our lives, no one will be able to ignore God’s beauty and power shining through us!
Let’s recognize the opportunity we have today to make a difference for eternity! Let the light of Jesus shine through your life so that people can see it!
Heavenly Father, thank You so much for Your Son, Jesus, who lighted the Way for us to find You! Help us to follow Your lead and take every opportunity You provide to put Your attributes on display for the people around us! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
