Good morning! This morning I am reminded of a movie quote I heard quite some time ago. Please don’t judge me when I mention the name of the movie, I’m almost too embarrassed to even say I watched it LOL! There is this one scene in the movie “What A Girl Wants,” where this guy says to the lead actress…
“Why are you trying so hard to fit in, when you were born to stand out?”
What A Girl Wants
This movie is now 22 years old – WOW (everyone out there who watched this movie is now feeling their age)! But these words struck me in such a way, that I still remember them so vividly today.
It automatically made me think about how as a Christian, we were not created to fit in with this world – the culture of division, the behaviors of selfishness, the motivators of power, fame, and money. This whole blog is based on Romans 12:2 – Don’t conform, BE TRANSFORMED!
God’s Word commands us to not love the things of the world. This doesn’t mean that we walk around on an elevated platform thinking we are better than everyone else. It means we are to surrender our behaviors and desires making them obedient to God’s Word!
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in them. For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
1 John 2:15-17
What a fantastic reward for doing the will of God – we will LIVE FOREVER with Him! This earth is only a temporary home for us, we are here for such in short time in the view of eternity.
Don’t get the wrong idea – I am thankful for my family and friends – I am thankful for the things that God has allowed me to be a steward of here on this earth – And I will continue to work hard at shining a bright light for Him until my job is finished here! But my permanent home is in heaven!
“For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
Philippians 3:18-21
As I study God’s Word each day, I am constantly blown away by how the truth in His Word can be applied in our everyday lives! If you are walking away from reading the Bible every day and not applying it, you are missing the point of reading the Bible!
God uses each passage to teach us how to live as citizens of heaven! Let’s not take our cue from the culture of this world and the society we live in. Allow the Bible to be the standard you measure your life up against and remember to ask God for His help! It is only through the renewing of our mind and the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives that we can BE TRANSFORMED into His likeness!
Remember – you were not created for this world! Don’t try to fit in – live different, LIVE FOR JESUS!
Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us that our true identity can only be found in You! You are our Creator, You created us in Your image, You have created us to be like You! Help us to not give in to the pressure of having to fit in with the world around us, but being courageous and bold as we live set apart for You! Holy Spirit, continue to do the work in us that only You can do! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
