Good morning! On a recent trip to the hardware store to get some paint, I was being helped by this gentleman whose name was Lane. Barely knowing more than his name, I can honestly say that I am so privileged to have been able to meet him.
Many times these days when you go into a store, you find yourself helping yourself, finding what you need, and checking yourself out of the store. The personal touch in many cases is as good as gone.
As I was waiting for the paint to be mixed to the color that I requested, I noticed that the mixing machine was putting in specific amounts of different colors to make a totally different color. I was intrigued and began to ask Lane more about how the machine worked.
Without hesitation as if he was once as intrigued as I was, he began to open the machines to show me the inside where all the few colors were stored that had the ability to make all of the colors shown on the cards hanging on the wall.
Everything made complete sense to me until… he told me what happens when they take a base white and have to make it into a ‘super’ white or an ‘ultra’ white color. He told me that in order to make a brighter white than the base, the machine actually adds a small amount of BLACK?!?
This is ridiculous!! So I immediately began to ask people around me if they ever heard about this, and Pastor Danny told me that he heard the color purple was added to make a ‘bright’ white. I still don’t completely understand it and the World Wide Web has been completely helpless in my recent attempts to gain an understanding.
If anyone can provide an understanding, I would LOVE to know the reason behind this. I have my hunches but definitely would like to know for sure.
This whole idea got me thinking about how we are supposed to live as followers of Jesus. We are supposed to do things that will not always make sense to the people around us so that we SHINE BRIGHT for Jesus!
“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.”
1 Corinthians 2:14
It is so important for us to be confident in who created us and who we are choosing to live for. If we allow doubt to creep in, we may find ourselves giving in to peer pressure instead of standing out for Jesus.
Let’s do things that will get others guessing… why are you doing that? Why are you being so nice? Why aren’t you looking for revenge? Let’s live differently to honor Jesus!!
Heavenly Father, thank You for each interaction that You use to teach us to apply Your Word. Help us to be sure of our faith and live in a way that others can see You and the transformation that You have caused in our lives! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
