Good morning! Today and tomorrow I have two stories that I wanted to share about a recent fundraiser run that Joshua did with a few of his Little League baseball coaches.
The route for the run went around a lake and utilized the main roads that were closed to local traffic ahead of the event. All of the information distributed by the organizers of the race said to park at a train station and catch a shuttle that would bring you to the starting location.
Now honestly, I was fine with that – but in those situations, it is annoying having to wait for the shuttle and not being able to leave exactly when you want to.
But the day before the event, one of Josh’s coaches called me and told me that he had a friend that lived close to the starting location of the race and he was able to park up to three cars in the friend’s driveway. He offered to have my car as one of the three!
So the day of the race we parked in the friend’s driveway and walked down to the end of their street which was right where we needed to be. Once the race was over, we did not have to wait for a shuttle, all we had to do was walk back to our car and drive away.
This got me thinking about how I received a benefit because of the relationship that Josh’s coach had with his friend who lived near the race. I didn’t do anything to earn the spot in the driveway, but because of the friendship I have developed with Josh’s coach, I was able to park near the race.
In the same way, we are offered the free gift of salvation – not because we deserve it, but because of the work of Jesus Christ!
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
We could never do enough to earn salvation on our own – Jesus IS the ONLY WAY! I do not know the person whose driveway we parked in during the race, but because of my friend I was able to park there. How much greater is the gift of salvation and the opportunity to personally know our Creator?!
Heavenly Father, thank You for providing us an opportunity to know You! Thank You for sending Your Son to offer us eternal life spent with You! Help us to accept the finished work of Jesus and the free gift of salvation. Help us to understand that there is nothing we could ever do to earn or deserve it, but because of our relationship with Jesus, we become Your children! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
