Good morning! About a month ago when I was weed whacking around the church, God brought something to my mind that I wanted to share with all of you.
We have a small building that is primarily used for our Youth Group in the parking lot across from the main church building. Around the side and back of the ‘Youth Building’, there is gravel on the ground with weeds growing up through the rock.
I immediately thought about how hard it is to get something to grow when you want it to, but weeds… they will grow anytime and anywhere! When we have planted seeds in the vegetable garden, some would take root and produce a harvest.
Of course it’s not easy, we need to pay attention to the plants, water them, protect them by using a fence to keep animals out – bottom line – it takes work. But not with the weeds, they always seem to grow without actually wanting them to.
If you don’t want them to take the nutrients from the soil that are needed for the vegetables to grow, it takes constant maintenance and removal. As I was annoyed with having to continuously knock these things down, God reminded me that weeds are just like sin.
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.
Genesis 4:7
If left unchecked, sin will try to take root in our lives. It is important for us to constantly be in God’s Word and allow Him to point out things in our lives that do not align with His ways!
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalm 139:23-24
This morning, let’s allow God to search our hearts, our motives, and our behaviors. We need His help to become more like Him each day! He will help us to realize the difference between right and wrong, and will nudge our hearts when we begin to veer off the narrow path.
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
1 Peter 5:8
It’s important for us to pay attention to all areas of our lives to ensure that we grow in our relationship with God and remove the things that do not honor Him!
Heavenly Father, we ask You to lead us in the way everlasting! Search us this morning and help us to make choices that will cause us to grow in our relationship with You! Help us to not allow sin to have a place in our hearts by being alert and walking each day with You! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
