Good morning! When we want to get to know someone on a personal level, we need to spend time with them. I can’t expect to know more about my family and friends if I am not engaging them on a regular basis. The same thing is true with God. It’s not enough to know about God, He invites us to truly KNOW Him!
It is so important for us to learn to connect with God relationally. As Jesus was teaching His disciples to pray, He begins with “Our Father in heaven.” God is our Creator, Lord, King, Friend, but arguably greater than them all, He is our Father!
“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, Abba, Father.”
Romans 8:15
The concept of adoption in Roman culture was significant. Adopted children were given full rights and privileges of natural-born children. This adoption is not merely a legal change but a relational one, signifying a new identity and status before God.
We are God’s children and His desire is for us to have a close, intimate relationship with Him! “Abba” is an Aramaic term for father, expressing intimacy and trust, much like “Daddy” in English.
Your view of God will determine your relationship with God!
If you view Him as a Master, than you will follow Him because you HAVE TO.
If you view Him as your Father, than you will follow Him because you LOVE AND RESPECT HIM!
Take a moment to think about how you view God. Know that He loves you with an unconditional love and desires a close, intimate relationship with you!
Heavenly Father, we come to You in prayer today thankful that we are Your children. We know we are sinners, but You have forgiven us and adopted us as Your own, and we are so grateful to call you our Father. Thank you for loving us. In Jesus Name – AMEN!
