Good morning! One thing that I love to do is remember a person’s name when I meet them so that I can call them by it the next time I see them. I heard a long, long time ago that the most important name to everyone is their own. In my experience, people are so surprised when I can remember their name and it makes them feel so good. If you want to show someone that you value them, remember their name.
I have been in the same neighborhood for many years now. I have seen people come and go and as new people come in, I do my best to meet them and introduce myself. A few years ago, I met this gentleman as I was outside doing yard work. As he was walking down the street I waved and said my normal hello. He stopped and introduced himself and told me he just moved in down the street.
Him and his wife walk down the street often on nice days and we always wave when we see each other. I hadn’t actually had a conversation with him in a long time for no specific reason, but just because we hadn’t been in the same place at the same time.
The other day, I saw him as I was getting into the car and when he said hello, he called me out by name! It took me back for a second because I don’t normally expect people to remember my name – but he did! I was able to call him by name as well and introduce my son to him. I can almost guarantee you that the next time I’m outside with Josh and we see Mr. Steve walking down the street, he will remember Josh’s name.
As I was processing this, it reminded me of how important it is to remember the names of God! When we can call Him by name it will do a couple things: 1) It will show Him that we value Him, and 2) It will encourage us with the name that we remember. For example…
Jehovah Jireh – The Lord who provides
Jehovah Shalom – The Lord our Peace
Jehovah Rapha – The Lord our Healer
Those are just a few out of many! The truth is… God has and is EVERYTHING we could every want or need! Learn His names and remember them!
“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
Psalm 9:10
Heavenly Father, thank You for the many ways You reveal Yourself to us! Help us to get to know You more through the reading and study of Your Word so that we can be encouraged by understanding and experiencing who You are! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
