Good morning! This daily relationship with God is so important to us. As we make it a habit to spend time with God and in His Word, He continues to teach us, shape us, transform us, and use us to make an eternal impact on others!

We never want our daily relationship with God to become a routine in the sense that it becomes a meaningless motion. It is essential to spend time with God with the purpose of growing. When my daily devotional time starts to become routine, I like to switch things up.

I don’t ever want my devotional time to become stale by just going through the motions. This morning I want to encourage you with different ways to change things up if you feel like you want more from the time you spend with God.

Worship – Spend time singing songs of worship to God. I encourage you to not just sing known worship songs, but sing a song of worship from your heart!

“Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.”

    Psalm 96:1

Reading God’s Word – Use a reading plan to read through the Bible in a year or there are smaller plans that focus on a specific topic. These are great because you can focus on something you are currently going through or an area you want to grow in.

“The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.”

    Psalm 119:130

Prayer – Be a person of prayer. Often times people make prayer more difficult than it is. It is simply a conversation between you and God. Share your heart with Him and allow Him to share His heart with you! Pray, believe, and thank Him!

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

    Colossians 4:2

Journaling – This is something I enjoy doing. Not only is it a great way to express yourself before God, but even more so if you go back and read it at a later time, it will encourage your heart with how your relationship with God has grown, how God answered prayer, and so much more!

“Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits”

    Psalm 103:2

These are just a few things you can do – or a combination of them – to jump start your relationship with God if you are in a place where it has become routine.

Heavenly Father, help us to grow today! If we are stuck in a rut, help us to move forward and change what we are doing to be reminded of Your love for us! If we are thriving, thank You, and continue to work in and through us! We are thankful for the relationship You have made available to us through Your Son! We love You! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
