Good morning! The amazing thing about God’s Word is that no matter how many times you read it, there is always something new that God wants to teach us through it. When the Israelites were complaining about being hungry in the wilderness, God told Moses that He would rain down bread from Heaven.

God instructed Moses in Exodus 16:4 saying, “The people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.”

It continues to tell us that if they tried to take enough for the next day, it would be full of maggots and began to smell. God wanted them to rely on Him for their daily provision! The same thing is true for us!

When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, part of the Lord’s prayer in Matthew 6:11 says, “Give us today our daily bread.” Jesus was not just talking about physical provision, but spiritual nourishment and sustenance. In that culture, the breaking of bread was an act of fellowship and communion.

Understanding this, God wants us to depend on Him daily, but even more He wants us to spend time with Him! The most important part here is DAILY! In the same way that our physical bodies need nourishment each day, so does our spirit.

God’s Word needs to be our daily meal to bring life and growth to our spirit! Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3 in the wilderness when He was being tempted by the devil. He said, “man does not live by bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” The full verse actually references the manna that God provided in the desert – showing again the importance of obedience to God and relying completely on Him!

Spend time today (if you haven’t already) reading God’s Word and enjoying communion with your Creator, Father, and Friend! You will be filled and fueled to live in a way that honors Him and spreads His love with everyone you come in contact with!

Heavenly Father, give us this day our DAILY bread! We believe that You will provide our every need – physical, emotional, relational, intellectual, and everything else! Help us to do our part in taking care of ourselves and others, but most importantly to have complete trust in You! Thank You for providing Your Word that is alive and powerful – offering new provisions each day! Thank You for Your Holy Spirit who illuminates Your Word to bring understanding and growth! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
