Good morning! This morning as I sit here I am thinking about the things that are currently happening in my life and how thankful I am for:

1 – Jesus my firm foundation

2 – The people that surround me with prayer and support.

I love being part of a team; whether it is my family, the leadership team at church, the Dream Team (the church volunteer team), the team at my secular job, or wherever else – teams are all around us!

In order for teams to work properly, each person has to surrender their own personal motives for the better of the team. Think about it for a moment, each person on the team is unique and has their own set of experiences, talents, and perspectives. If each one acted on those things individually, there would be chaos. There will be times on a team where you can shine, but depending on the team, there will more often be times when you have to choose to support and let others use their talents for the benefit of the entire team.

There will also be times where you can’t do what you would like to do because if you did, the rest of the team would suffer. When I used to play soccer, I played defense, a position that does not score very frequently. If I wanted to score and was committed to doing whatever it took to score, my position would have to be abandoned, leaving a vulnerability the other team could exploit. So it is important to consider the purpose of the team to ensure we are playing our part.

The Bible tells us that we are part of God’s team – the body of Christ – the church! 1 Corinthians 12:12 says, “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” And 1 Corinthians 12:27 says, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” If you have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord, you are part of this team and you have a part to play!

It’s often said that in the church – 90% of the work is done by 10% of the people. Let that sit for a moment. This is a mindset that does not belong in the church. No matter how big or small you think your part is, everyone needs to be part of the body for it to fulfill its purpose.

As you read through the scripture in 1 Corinthians 12, it compares the church to an actual body. Imagine if a part of your body was missing or lacking, it would affect everything you did. In the same way, if one of us is missing or lacking, it will affect us all!

Let’s be diligent and intentional about playing our part to ensure the body is firing on all cylinders and all members are operating in unity with one another. Reach out to someone else today to ask them how they are doing, how you can pray for them, and what you can do to better support them!

Heavenly Father, thank You for providing us with a firm foundation, Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for setting the perfect example of a team represented in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! Help us to understand how we will either have a positive or negative effect on the other parts of Your body! Encourage and challenge us today by Your Holy Spirit to play our part to ensure that the body remains healthy and strong! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
