Good morning! It is so important for our faith in God and relationship with Him to be grounded in the Word of God. One of the primary ways that God reveals Himself to us is through His Word. There is a parable in Luke 8:4-15 about a farmer going out to sow his seed. A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels.
I’m not going to write out the scripture here, so make sure you take time today (even pause now) to read through this story. It talks about four different places where the seed is scattered and each place represents various ways the Word of God is received.
Some fell along the path:
This talks about people that hear the Word of God but the devil comes and takes away the Word. This happens when our hearts resemble a footpath, being beaten down by skepticism or the habits of a worldly life. People like this find it hard to accept the Word of God.
Some fell on rocky ground:
This talks about people that hear the Word and receive it with joy, but have no root. This person starts to grow but when tested by the world, withers away because they have not dug deep to establish roots.
Some fell among thorns:
This talks about people who hear the Word but are choked out by all of life’s worries, problems, and pressures. They are not able to mature because they are more concerned with the “riches and pleasures” of this life.
Some fell on good soil:
This talks about people who hear the Word of God, retain it, and persevere to produce a crop – a hundred times more than what was sown! This is the kind of people we need to be – men of God’s Word.
Read it, Love it, Study it, Live it! It is only by staying in the Word of God that we will be able to persevere. When we ground or root ourselves in the Word, we rely on God for strength and support just like a plant relies on its roots for the nutrients it needs to produce a crop!
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that teaches us who You are! There is SO MUCH in Your Word that we will never be able to attain all that You want us to know through it here on earth! Help us to LOVE it and LIVE it each day to experience the abundant life You desire for us! Help us to surround ourselves with people that will challenge us and encourage us to grow! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
