Good morning! I recently took on a different role at my job. There are two areas of the business that are under my purview and all I have been doing for the last few weeks is asking questions. The goal is to understand why certain things are being done in a specific way. One of the main answers I continue to receive is… because this is the way it has always been done.
It’s amazing how we can all get to a place of doing something and when it comes down to it, we really don’t understand why we do it. We just do some things because someone told us to, because we see others doing it, or because we don’t have any other idea of what to do. To take it even further, we get defensive when people start asking questions about what we are doing.
The same thing can happen to us if we are not careful when we come to learn about Jesus and accept His free gift of salvation. We learn just enough and then, instead of searching God’s Word to truly understand, we allow others to influence the way we live.
It doesn’t matter if someone has been living a certain way for the last 25 years, if it doesn’t align with God’s Word, it is not the right way to live.
It is important for us to understand why we make certain choices and be able to provide an answer. People are allowed to ask us why we live the way we do and we should be able to answer them in a way that would hopefully encourage them to follow Jesus!

Heavenly Father, thank You for helping us see our need for You! Help us to not just accept what others believe to be true, but to search Your Word, like the Bereans, to understand for ourselves to be able to provide an answer to any who would be inquisitive of what we believe. In Jesus Name – AMEN!
