Good morning! This morning I am thankful for the peace of God! There are so many responsibilities that pull us in different directions, tough situations that are out of our control, and many other things that happen on a daily basis that try to steal our peace! True peace cannot be found in the absence of all those things trying to steal our peace, but only in the Presence of God!
One Sunday a couple of months ago, I was able to pray with a little child who experiences anxiety at school. I asked her if she listens to worship music and she nodded her head yes. Worshipping God is a great way to keep your focus on God instead of the other ’stuff.’
I asked her if she read the Bible and she nodded her head yes. I encouraged her to memorize a verse that talks about God’s peace that she could remember throughout the day. I gave her the following verses to choose from:
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
Isaiah 26:3
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7
I went on to explain that God promises to bring peace to those whose thoughts are fixed on Him! And not only that, but in every situation He wants us to bring our requests to Him. When we do, He promises a peace that passes all understanding to guard our hearts and minds!
I prayed with her and have continued to pray for her that her heart and mind would be filled with the Presence of God!
This peace that God promises is not dependent on our circumstances and cannot be fully grasped by the human mind! This means there is a spiritual element to this peace. The same Greek word is used in Galatians 5:22 where peace is mentioned as a fruit of the Spirit!
Let’s focus on welcoming the Presence of God into every responsibility, every situation, and anything else that tries to steal our peace today! Live by the Spirit and deny the flesh!
Heavenly Father, thank You for always caring for us and being ready to hear our concerns. You have given us everything we need for every situation that we face! Help us to continuously surround ourselves with Your truth so our minds cannot be infiltrated by things that are not of You! Thank You for the peace that passes all understanding when we keep our minds fixed on You! In Jesus Name – AMEN!
